Moving through Judgment with Recalibration   – The Wellness Universe Blog

Happy spring blessings! I am thrilled and honored to bring you another piece from the heart.  

As I contemplated what to write about this month, the topics of ego and judgment were brought to my attention. Since I recognize us all as individual beings on a soul journey to discover and expand into greater love, I decided to title my blog series from my perspective on how love would respond in different ways. I had a recent encounter with a loved one where I was called out for my words and attitude that came across as judgmental, and was asked to take personal reflection on how I show up for people. Ouch. That stung my ego. I preach love through and through, yet the people in my life see my overlooked areas. Last month, I wrote a blog about conscious communication and then was immediately given an opportunity to practice what I preach, take accountability for using words that came out wrong, and self-reflect on where I can show up better. Let us uncover and discover what it means to be human, continuously striving to grow and evolve through this life. What an honor to get the experience of evolution!  

So, let us dive into judgment and see how love would respond.  

In an ethics class, I was taught that it is our moral obligation as citizens of the world to judge between right and wrong. In a cultural anthropology class, I learned to be accepting of all different ways of being, and that we must look at others through a non-judgmental lens. It’s funny how we’re sometimes taught contradictions.  

Growing up and studying spiritual teachings over the years taught me that meditation was the practice of coming into non-judgmental awareness in the present moment. Through observation, we can allow our thought forms to pass by like clouds in the sky. On top of that, I align with many teachers, multiple spiritual mentors, and many ideologies that say, “do not judge.”  

Many of us judge subconsciously. Many of us judge boldly and loudly. I have come to recognize that I massively judge my judgment. I’ve heard it said that “the ego has its own ego.”  

It can feel challenging to live in a world with so many different perspectives on what’s right and wrong. I have a collection of wise beings in my life on a spectrum of different beliefs, who have a variety of wisdom to impart upon one.  So, I gather my spiritual inquiries with deep contemplation that continues to be shaped and molded—it’s a joy to continue to expand and grow and know that as much as I know, I know nothing. Through all of this understanding that there are multiple strands of golden truth emerging from each religion and practice, I believe that the universal truth is love, and we continuously have to live our lives with love to the best of our abilities. It is up to each individual to find their truth.  

So, what if it’s not our role or responsibility to judge others? What if we merely observed situations and shifted into a higher frequency? Without participating or aligning with something that’s not for you, not condoning behavior that doesn’t resonate, just being present with what is.  

I was chatting with a friend about the quote in my last article, “everything is either an act of love or a cry for love,” which is a rewording of a quote by Marianne Williamson that I realized I still needed to give credit to. EEP!  

We discussed how, at the root of all things, there is love. If you’re angry, you’re probably feeling justified in your need to stand up for yourself or others (act of love). If you’re afraid, you may be coming from a place of love for yourself and your personal well-being.  

On the other hand, the ones who cause pain in the world probably have never been loved enough and, in some way, shape, or form, are looking for power and control to replace the love they’re inherently lacking. I have a theory that if everyone in the world had true self-love, there would be peace on Earth.  

So, with that perspective in mind, imagine if we moved the needle from the ego’s need to judge and simply stepped into a place of mere observation.  

I’ve been called out for being passive, neutral, and quiet at times. Other times, too loud and boisterous. It can feel disheartening to be judged by others who don’t know the whole truth. Have you ever done that? I know I have. It seems that no two people always have the same perspective, and it’s up to oneself to decide what is true for you. When Jesus said “the meek shall inherit the Earth,” I wonder if he meant that the humble, compassionate, and peaceful would create the new world. This is what I believe we each need to continuously remember to recalibrate to when we stroll down the wrong lane.  

I understand there to be a duality simultaneously happening on our planet. There’s a choice to resonate on the frequency of judgment, misery, and despair, or there’s a choice to imagine the world as we want it. Carl Jung spoke of the “collective unconscious.” Imagine if enough of us were willing to look at our own shortcomings and shadows and allowed ourselves to be called out when we miss the mark so that we may recalibrate to a greater understanding of love.  

Yes, it’s easy to perceive all that’s going wrong and all that could continue to go wrong, yet what if each of us co-creators became aware of our thoughts and the noise we feed into the collective unconscious, and we chose to merely observe from a nonjudgmental perspective? As Abraham Hicks says, “when we become aware of what we don’t want to create, we launch new rockets of desire for our newfound creations that we DO want.”  

What would love do?

Get out of the head and get into the heart. Notice the judgments coming up from within. Notice where they’re showing up for you. Are you feeling them or thinking them? What are they asking of you?  

Observe but don’t absorb. 

Now I will not sit here behind a screen and tell you that I have all the answers.  

But I will tell you that each day I strive to learn, grow, deepen, and strengthen my connection to love and an altruistic life. When I miss the mark, the conscious co-creator that I am creates an experience in my life for someone to guide me back to my soul’s truth and shift to the next level. In this game of infinity, we can always play again . . . but I’d like to level up as much as I can this time around. I believe that starts with awareness, curiosity, and non-judgmental observation of the present moment.
