The healing journey is a dance of joy and pain, peace and yearning. These states of being interact continuously. They are like the universal flow of Yin and Yang as we walk our healing and awakening path and honour our life.
Awakening to Growth
Do you ever have emotions rise with a vengeance? Does it come from nowhere? Well done! You are awakening to the spiritual path. Does what would usually be a small issue easily dealt with take you over, and is it impossible to let it go?
You know you are awakening when your reaction to something or someone brings up uncharacteristic emotions and hits you with an unbelievable force.
Pause and take a breath
Have I recently had intense emotions?
Have I recently had uncharacteristic thoughts?
What is my usual reaction to the unexpected?
Have I recently had a deep emotional response to something?
Have I recently had a powerful thought about someone?
How did the intense responses affect me?
When was the last time I had a sense of pure clarity?
Pain’s True Nature
Pain and joy are like two sides of the same coin. They are similar in that they both cause an elevated sense of awareness. Heightened awareness can bring a profound clarity that helps us discriminate easily between what is trivial and what is truly important in life.
Reflect for a moment
Have I ever been in an accident?
Have I ever felt my life was threatened?
Have I ever experienced deep primal fear?
There are many levels of fear and, when stimulated, it rises at different times and in various ways.
When we experience fear, we find the inessential aspects of life drop away, similar to a snake shedding it’s skin. Suddenly all the trivial things is life we were so concerned about dissolve and fade away, leaving only the real essential facts that make up life itself.
Joy and Pain
Joy brings you to a place where you can respect life by feeling gratitude for life’s positive nature.
Pain brings you to a place where you can honour life by appreciating its uniqueness.
When we experience pain, we realise how much life truly means to us and how much we value the people close to us.
Agony and joy dance and flow together side by side. They are like old faithful friends. For a time on the awakening path, they seem inseparable.
True Nature of Pain
For a moment, think of pain as ‘growth-full’ rather than ‘pain-full.’
Pain is an experience that pushes us forward in life. It keeps us moving. Pain can be physical, emotional, mental, energetic and psychic.
Pause and take a breath
When have I experienced pain in my life?
How did I keep going?
How did I break through the pain barrier?
At what point did the pain transform into heightened awareness and strength?
Pain Can Be a Transformational Breakthrough
In Western culture, in particular, we are conditioned to see pain as something to avoid. In other cultures, pain is merely used as a rite of passage and a means of triumph.
It takes courage and effort to change this Western state of mind. The skill and art of spiritual growth is choosing to turn this around and see the ‘conditioned pain’ as an indicator that you are about to make a breakthrough. This approach gives you the ability to surge forward and rise with new levels of energy.
The Way We Choose to See Things
Every day we wake up and have the challenge of how we will live the day. We can face the day as a struggle or live it as an opportunity for love and transformation.
Pause and take a breath
Look at a forest. Do this the way that is presented to you in the moment. You may be able to physically walk in a forest or look at one from a distance. You may be looking through a window or at a photo or image. You may be in a virtual forest.
Look at the shapes of the trees.
Are the trees all straight and tall?
Look at the curves and twists of the gnarled trees.
Look at the trees that are cut down, struck by lightning, attacked by animals.
Look at the weaker trees, supported by the root network of the healthier, stronger trees.
Do I see pain and agony?
I see growth and great majesty.
I see the process of the tree’s growth.
I see the tree has allowed the process to take place.
Like the tree, I allow my growth process to take place.
I embrace the healing dance of joy and pain.
The Shift Away From Struggle
As I walk my path, I reflect on how my beliefs have shifted from the early days. When we first awaken, we can have fixed ideas about our path. It comes from past programming, karma and religious beliefs. I discovered that to grow spiritually, I have to examine my beliefs. I have to be flexible and keep an open mind and open heart. I realise that I must trust that the universe is friendly and always working for me and with me. This is vitally important for my healing, to hold deep within that whatever is rising to be released and transformed is ultimately positive and for my highest good. As I hold positive energy and thoughts about my growth, I expand my potential for evolution.
Grow With Joy
Growth does not only take place out of struggle. It is not always from pain and crisis.
The dense energies of the physical earth plane and the overall level of human consciousness can be transcended. Once you have made the decision to be positive and embrace the journey of your Spiritual Soul rather than your personality, you can speed up your journey.
Your Soul is always growing, exploring, learning and discovering new aspects of itself. It strives to reach new levels of understanding, self- awareness and aliveness.
Without spiritual growth, your life force energy will contract. When you continue to grow and expand, you feel alive, vibrant, healthy and joyful.
One of the most important elements of reaching enlightenment is the intensity of your drive to grow. The more you want to grow with all your being, the more focus you give to growth, and the more rapidly you can reach enlightenment.

Sit quietly and bring your awareness to your heart.
I ask my Spiritual Soul
How much do I want to grow?
Please, show me how beautiful my life will become as I grow spiritually.
The more I grow, the more joyful I will be.
The more I grow, the more peaceful I will be.
As I grow, I become more stable in everything I do.
As I grow, I become connected to the balanced, calm inner part of myself.
As I grow, I carry out my higher purpose with love joy and deep satisfaction.
My growth gives me new strength and courage.
I give permit myself to grow with joy.
Love Your Pain
One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is to dissolve the negative patterns you have about growth. Permit yourself to have your spiritual growth take place with more ease.
If you have a situation that is not joyful, realise that it is teaching you important lessons. Reach into the deepest part of your being and ask for insights from your Soul.
Exercise
Sit quietly and slow down your breath.
Begin by bringing your awareness deep into your heart centre.
Ask for the highest possible light to descend on you and shine in all directions.
Imagine yourself growing smaller and smaller.
You become a conscious point of light.
As the point of light, travel into the centre of the nucleus of your cells. You can be in all your cells or one of them.
The nucleus of your cells holds your DNA life code.
As you focus only on light and love, ask your DNA to release any programs and belief systems that do not serve your growth.
It is not necessary to know what these are.
Ask for the programs and old beliefs to be released.
From your heart, surround your DNA with love and Light.
Tell your DNA program that you want to reach your highest potential in this lifetime.
Ask your DNA and your whole being to allow new programs, beliefs and thoughts to assist you in reaching your highest potential.
Stay in this space for a while.
When you are ready, return to the room.
I embrace every opportunity presented to me to awaken, heal and grow.
I am engaged and ready to achieve my highest potential this lifetime.
I love and honour myself and my journey.
It is great to salute a triumph after a struggle, but wonderful to celebrate the ease with which growth sometimes occurs.
The challenge of the healing dance lies not in how hard things are but in how expansive you can make your vision. It is about embracing the energy flow between release, acceptance, transformation, joy, transcendence, and truth.
