Simple Sound, Profound Benefits
Have you ever caught yourself humming without even thinking about it? Maybe in the shower, while folding laundry, or walking in nature? You’re not alone—and it turns out that little “hmmmm” might be doing more good than you ever imagined.
That’s the heart of my upcoming workshop: “A Transformational Journey, Vibrational Healing Through Humming”.
Because humming isn’t just cute—it’s calming, healing, and deeply human.
Why Humming?
As someone who works with sound and the nervous system, I’m endlessly fascinated by how simple vibrations can help us regulate, restore, and reconnect. Humming is the most accessible sound tool I know. No instruments, no fancy techniques—just breath, vibration, and curiosity.
If you’re someone who experienced childhood trauma, like me, this modality will help you. I didn’t realize how humming, along with rocking and finding quiet hiding places, were tools my nervous system used to keep me grounded and calm naturally. It continues to soothe my nervous system whenever or wherever I need it.
When I began exploring humming more intentionally as a yoga teacher and therapist, I noticed a real shift:
- My breath slowed down.
- My mind quieted.
- And a gentle sense of joy—like an old friend from my childhood—came humming back. Your nervous system really does know what it needs!
What the Science Says: Healing Power of Humming
Don’t be fooled by how simple it sounds—humming is a physiological powerhouse. Here are a few of its greatest hits:
- Nitric Oxide Boosting: Humming increases nitric oxide in your sinuses by up to 15x. That means improved immunity, better airflow, and sinus support.
- Vagus Nerve Activation: Humming stimulates the vagus nerve, the “wandering” nerve that helps us rest, digest, and heal.
- Natural Breathwork: Humming naturally slows and lengthens your exhale—like doing pranayama without even trying.
- Vibrational Medicine: The gentle buzz of a hum travels through tissues and bones, even into the brain. You literally resonate from the inside out.
Emotional Benefits You Can Feel
If you’ve ever felt calmed by a lullaby, grounded by a chant, or soothed by your own hum, you already know the magic.

- It anchors us in the present moment
- It even lifts mood and supports better sleep
We’ll evoke the spirit of an ancestor, guide, or loved one—someone whose energy supports you—whether known or unknown, distant or close through a guided meditation/humming practice.
We’ll explore all of this in the workshop—and try a bedtime hum you can take home.
Ancient Roots, Modern Science
Humming isn’t new. It’s been around for thousands of years in sacred and secular traditions:
- The yogic practice of Bhramari Pranayama (the “humming bee breath”)
- Chanting in spiritual traditions from Buddhist to Benedictine
- Indigenous and monastic lineages that use vocal tone for healing and prayer
What’s exciting is how modern research is finally catching up with what these lineages have always known: sound heals.
What We’ll Do in the Workshop
This workshop isn’t just about learning—it’s about experiencing.
